When people come down to Harbour Splash, many ask for recommendations on what to do after their visit. So here is a list of some of the popular things to do in Dún Laoghaire that we enjoy ourselves.
1. Get something to eat downtown
After an hour bouncing and running around the Harbour Splash course, you are probably starting to get a little hungry. Luckily there are plenty of places to stop and eat a short walk away from our Dutch sea-barge, the Stella. Located nearby is Milano pizza restaurant. Milano is a great place for a delicious quick bite to eat. If you want to eat right by the water, go to the Waterfront Bistro for some great seafood. They offer a variety of dishes so everyone can get a dish they like. If you are in the mood for some comfort food, go on over to The Purty Kitchen, a cozy pub where you can get a great sit down meal. The Lighthouse is the perfect place to go for a kids party. They have a wide variety of food and also have many games to play. When you are in Dún Laoghaire you will never go hungry!
2. Enjoy some ice cream
If you are not in the mood for a meal or just want a sweet treat, stop for some ice cream. The two top places to get ice cream are Scrumdiddly’s and Teddy’s Ice Cream. Both locations are well known in the area and you cannot go wrong choosing either place.
3. Walk along the popular East Pier
Harbour Splash is located on the west pier and it is a short walk to Dún Laoghaire’s East Pier. Walk the 1.3 km scenic pier and enjoy the view of the Dublin marina and the rest of the bay. Stroll around the pier as you eat your ice cream and watch the fishermen catch their fish for the day.
4. Explore the James Joyce Tower and Museum
If you are a fan of literature or history, make sure to visit the James Joyce Tower and Museum. Built in the 19th century to defend Ireland against a possible napoleonic invasion, this Martello tower is where Joyce’s book Ulysses starts off. The tower also has an amazing panoramic view of the coast of Dublin. Make sure to stop by this free attraction to learn more about Ireland’s history as well as the life of one of the greatest modern Irish writers.
5. Stroll through the People’s Park Farmers Market
If you are in Dún Laoghaire on a Sunday, stop by the People’s park to stroll through the local farmers market. Check out the local produce and goods or grab a tasty bite to eat. Perfect to round off your family day out or with a group of friends.
